Share the mattress size and care label
Tell us whether the mattress is single, double, queen or another size, and include its approximate dimensions if you are unsure. Send the brand, model and care label where available. A removable cover, pillow top or attached topper can change what needs to be discussed.
State whether you want the sleeping surface assessed or also the edges and accessible sides. If you have more than one mattress, list each separately. This is more useful for agreeing a quote than a close-up of one mark without a view of the whole bed.
Look closely at the visible evidence
Our supplied edge comparison retains the original before and after panels. You can compare visible discolouration along the surface and side. The single-frame photograph also has its original labels: the cleaned section is on the left and the before section is on the right.
These photos record appearance, not the condition inside a mattress. They do not measure moisture, identify the source of a mark or establish a health outcome. The unlabelled mattress cover photograph at the top of this article is presented as a view of the item, without assigning it a before or after status.

The original labelled comparison shows the top and side of the mattress before and after cleaning.

Explain the concern, including previous treatments
For each area, describe what happened if known, how long the mark has been present and whether there is an odour. Mention anything already applied, even if the product did not appear to make a difference. If the mattress has been wet, explain that history separately.
Do not expect a quotation based on photographs to guarantee that every mark will disappear. Surface cleaning, fabric wear and damage inside the mattress are different issues. Ask what can be assessed and what outcome is reasonable for this particular item.
Plan the appointment around reuse of the bed
Tell the cleaner if the bed is needed that evening. Ask about the likely drying arrangements before choosing the appointment, rather than assuming the mattress can immediately be remade. Timing depends on the item, agreed treatment and indoor conditions.
Confirm when sheets and a protector can go back on, how to ventilate the room and what to do if a treated area still feels damp. Arrange another sleeping option when necessary. A visible improvement in a photograph does not confirm that the mattress is ready to use.
Prepare the room and keep the care instructions
Remove bedding before the agreed visit and clear a safe path to the bed. Explain whether the mattress can be moved and mention stairs, tight access or a heavy bed frame. Do not struggle to move a heavy mattress on your own simply to take a photograph.
For routine care, Sleepyhead’s general guidance includes vacuuming and use of a mattress protector. Follow the instructions for your own model; this article does not prescribe a home stain-removal mixture or replace those instructions.
